Questions You Need to Ask Your Roofing Contractor

A roof replacement is a big job. Prior to hiring a roofing contractor, it is important to ask potential roofing providers some important questions. At Bulldog Roofing, we have the experience and know-how you need to perform exceptional roofing work that meets or exceeds your expectations.

Below are several questions to ask a roofer to help ensure you get the best quality roofing job for the right price.

1. Are You Licensed?

Ask the roofing company for a copy of its license. Roofers with proper licensing are abiding by the law and are more inclined to exhibit the professionalism and care you want in a roofer. They are also likely to possess the training and experience you need to ensure quality results.

2. What Insurance Do You Carry?

At a minimum, your roofing contractor should carrying workers’ compensation and general liability insurance. Ask the contractor to show you an up-to-date certificate of insurance.

3. How Long Have You Been in Business?

Working with an established company can help ensure you receive quality work and service upfront and at the back end of the project. Inquire about the company’s background and experience to get a feel for its history and capabilities.

4. What’s Your Roofing Installation Process?

A roofing project should have proper quality control and accountability onsite. This may be provided through a knowledgeable and reliable individual such as a crew foreman and project supervisor who visits the site periodically to oversee the project.

5. What Warranties Do You Provide?

A roofer will typically provide a warranty on its workmanship. The product warranty on the shingle roofing material provided by the manufacturer may be 20 years, but the workmanship warranty may only be one year. The manufacturer’s warranty is only in force if the roofing contractor installs the materials according to the manufacturer’s specifications. Therefore, make sure you check on the type of warranties provided and their installation process.

6. Can I See Your Company Reviews and/or References?

A solid roofing contractor should have online reviews, preferably with the Better Business Bureau and Google. Reviews are a convenient way to gage the experiences of previous customers. Ask the contractor for references from previous or current customers you can contact. Once you have sorted through reviews and references and narrowed down the field of candidates, ask one or more roofers for a free roof inspection.

Once you get the answers you need from prospective contractors, it is time to choose one to handle your roofing project.
